Theileriasis and Trypanosomiasis are the leading killer diseases of our cattle, kilifi county being the home of the famous Arabuko -Sokoke forest pose a great challenge when it comes to preventing and controlling the tsetse fly menace.
That is why we thought it was a brilliant idea when the Kilifi county came up with the idea of reviving the cattle dips, i new farmers in this county would reduce the veterinary cost by almost seventy percent. veterinary services being a liability that was born out of privatization of the vet services way back 1980’s by the same Government that believed and still believes that Agriculture ‘is the back borne of the national economy’.
But it was not to be the case after KIMACAPRODA, moving around the entire country to see how the much published cattle dips were helping the local farmers it turned out to be a big-shock, ‘it is again another crafted and well polished lie”.
KIMACAPRODA is not complaining because they are not in condition to operate yet,no! we are because they listed these cattle dips as already completed projects which means money allocated for that has once more been mishandled.
Treating a case of tick-born disease as fatal as East coast fever (theleriasis) can cost a farmer up to Ten thousand Kenyan shillings not to mention the additional cost of the opportunist infections like bovine pneumonia, diarrhea. You will realize how desperately local farmers needed this cushioning(cattle dips)It is again another let down from our County Government whose officials has constantly shown lack of focus when it comes to technical matters.
